INFORMERS

discovery

Carla Deras, Ernesto Gamboa, and siblings Emilio and Analía Maya, received the tempting offer of collaborating with the United States government in exchange for resident visas. Despite facing numerous obstacles and dangers to obtain their “green cards”, these “informers” are about to be deported.

The documentary relates the controversial story of four Latin Americans who risked their lives for a broken promise. It also includes statements and opinions of Immigration and DEA agents, analysts, attorneys and legislators, such as Congressman Maurice Hinchey, who is knowledgeable about the case of the Maya siblings.

Their Stories
Having agreed to serve as informers in exchange for legal residency, Argentine brother and sister Emilio and Analía Maya became involved in the human trafficking mafia. After two years of service, when both had put down strong roots in the United States with regard to their business and family life, both were detained and face possible deportation. Carla Deras had a similar experience. Her contribution made it possible to dismantle a child trafficking network in her country. In exchange for a promise of visas from the immigration service, she moved to the United States with her family. They never received visas and 4 years later, she will have to return to her country where her life is in danger. Lastly, the documentary tells the story of Ernesto Gamboa, who worked for different governmental agencies and whose participation was crucial in the arrest of more than 90 people. After fourteen years of work, he was sent to a detention center for working illegally in the United States.
